Disorganised trip to the Lake District January 2005

We stayed at Ambleside Youth Hostel. Changes in the structure of the organisation mean that, unlike in Scotland, you no longer have to be a member to use the Hostels, being a member just means that you pay less. It even has a bar!

First day's walk was to do the Faifield Horseshoe. This starts and finishes at Ambleside. Great, no driving.
The approach is by way of paths and green lanes

Eventually the heat got too much

Sunday morning, the view from our Hostel window.

The walk today was to Saint Sunday Crag.
This lies next to Fairfield,
but we are starting from Ullswater, on the other side.
This is Ullswater, with a steamer

Now above the snow line

A bit further up, with good lighting

MUNRO DINNER

The Annual Highways Munro Dinner was on Friday 20 January 2006

This year it was Tim Feathersone's turn to organise it. We met in Ryrie's Bar at Haymarket, and were then duly marched off along Dalry Road to a
secret destination, which turned out to be First Coast "a quality neighbourhood bistro for the West of Edinburgh".
The seating arrangements were two almost adjacent tables, which was fine, and grub was good, which was even better.
As can be seen, a couple of glasses of wine soon put a smile on our faces.

Thanks Tim
