Five of us (Corbett baggers?- never!)
dropped of the bus at Lagangarbh in Glencoe, to use the West Highland Way over
Devil's Staircase, as a more interesting approach to Garbh Bheinn, near
Kinlochleven
Down in the woods at
about 150 metres

The
location of Garbh Bheinn gives great views of the Aonach Eagach to the south
and The Mamores to the north
Tim Featherstone was
surprised when I explained our route. He had assumed the we had taken the
first 5Km or so of the Aonach Eagach, as far as Meall Dearg, then north across the
col at about 535 metres- better than 150. Right as usual Tim. I have plotted the two routes on
this view. Tim's runs in the foreground. the one we took goes into the big
hole behind.
June 2006 bus to Galloway,
The Merrick
General opinion was
that we might as well make a decent walk of it and leave the bus at the
high point of the Straiton to Glentrool road, and go south over Shalloch
on Minnoch and Tarfessock on our way to the Merrick. There was low cloud
and a touch of rain at first.
This is at S on M trig point.
By the time we
reached Tarfessock the forecast clearance had arived.
Decending from
Tarfesock before climbing to The Merrick.
Loch Enoch seen to the east.
From the top of the
Merrick we turned west to the road and the bus.
